Daltons Atomic Theory
Structure of Atom
Democritus was a chemist who coined the term ‘atom’ though not much was known about this elemental particle that made all the matter.
The first scientist to explain the composition of matter
on the basis of atoms was John Dalton. He proposed the famous Atomic theory.
Hence according to Daltons atomic theory
1. All matter is made up of very tiny particles called atoms.
2. Atoms of an element are identical and shape, mass and have similar
properties.
3. Atoms of compounds are different in shape, mass but are always present in a fixedratio.
4. During chemical reactions atoms are not formed nor they are destroyed. They
only get rearranged to form new products.
